1
IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD, AND TO SING PRAISES UNTO THY NAME, O MOST HIGH:
*It's good to thank the Lord and sing praises to Your name, O highest one.
2
To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
*To display your kindness in the morning and your loyalty at night,
3
Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
*On a ten-stringed instrument, and on a small harp-like tool; on a harp played seriously.
4
For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
*Because you, Lord, have made me happy with what you do, I will succeed at your creations.
5
O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
*O GOD, how amazing your creations are! And your ideas are so profound.
6
A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
*A rough, uncivilized person doesn't get it, and a foolish person also can't understand this.
7
When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
*When bad people seem to grow like weeds, and those who do wrong thrive, they will eventually be destroyed forever.
8
But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.
*But you, Lord, are the greatest forever and ever.
9
For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
*For indeed, your enemies, Lord, will disappear, and all those who do wrong will be scattered.
10
But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
*But you will make my horn famous, like a unicorn's horn: I will be filled with new oil.
11
Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
*My eye will see what I want when looking at those who oppose me, and my ears will hear what I desire from those who try to defeat me.
12
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
*The righteous will thrive and grow tall, like a palm tree and a cedar in Lebanon.
13
Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.
*People who follow God in His home will grow and thrive in the areas He cares for.
14
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
*In their later years, they will continue to produce fruit; they will be healthy and thriving.
15
To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
*To prove God is fair: he's my strong foundation, with no wrongdoing in him.
