Chapter 62

1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.

*My soul really looks to God for help; he is the one who saves me.

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

*He alone is my strength and rescue; he protects me; I won't be easily shaken.

3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

*For how long will you plan harm for others? You will all be killed. Just like a weak wall about to fall, and a wobbly fence, that's what you'll become.

4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

*They just plan to bring him down from his greatness. They love lying. They say nice things with their mouths, but secretly they curse. Selah.

5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

*Wait, soul, just for God; I'm hoping for him to help me.

6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

*He alone is my strength and my rescue; he protects me, so I won't be shaken.

7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

*My safety and honor come from God: He's my source of strength and protection too.

8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

*Always trust in God; people, share your feelings with Him. God is our safe place. (Pause and reflect.)

9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

*Of course, people who are not important are prideful, and those who are powerful aren't truthful. When weighed against pride, they are completely lighter and insignificant.

10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

*Don't rely on mistreating others and don't be proud of stealing. If you gain more wealth, don't let it make your heart happy.

11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

*God spoke one time, I heard it twice - power belongs to God.

12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

*The mercy belongs to you, Lord, because you give each person what they deserve for their actions.
