Chapter 5

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

*Listen to my words, God, think about my thoughts.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

*Listen to my voice when I call, my King and my God, because I will pray to you.

3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

*In the morning, I will listen for your voice, Lord. I will pray to you and look upwards.

4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

*You are not a God who likes bad things: evil will not live with you.

5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

*Fools won't be seen by you; you hate those who do wrong things.

6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

*You shall eliminate those who lie: the Lord will hate the bloodthirsty and dishonest person.

7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

*But for me, I'll visit your home because of all the kindness you show; there, in fear of you, I'll worship at your sacred place.

8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

*Guide me, Lord, on the path of righteousness due to my opponents; lay out your path clearly for me to follow.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

*They don't keep promises, they're very evil inside, their throat is like an open tomb, and they deceive with their words.

10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

*Destroy them, God; let them fail because of their plans; throw them away due to their many wrongdoings; as they've rebelled against you.

11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

*But everyone who believes in you should be happy: they should always shout for joy because you protect them; those who love your name should also be happy because of you.

12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

*Because you, Lord, will bless the good people; you will protect them with favor like a shield.
