When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
*When Israel left Egypt, the family of Jacob also escaped from a group of people who spoke differently.

Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
*Judah was God's special place, and Israel was under His control.

The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
*The sea noticed it and ran away: Jordan moved backward.
4
The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
*The mountains hopped like strong sheep, and the small hills leaped like baby sheep.

What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
*What happened to you, oh Jordan Sea, that you ran away? Why were you pushed back?

Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?
*"You mountains, why did you leap like goats; and you small hills, why did you jump like young sheep?"

Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
*Quake, Earth, in the presence of the Lord, in the presence of God, Jacob's mighty protector.
8
Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
*Which made the rock a flowing water source, and turned the flint into a gushing water fspring.
