Chapter 25

1 Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

*I raise my spirit to you, Lord.

2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

*Oh God, I believe in you; don't make me feel embarrassed, and don't let those against me win.

3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

*Yes, don't let those who wait for you feel embarrassed; instead, make those who disobey without reason feel embarrassed.

4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.

*Show me the way, Lord; teach me the path.

5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

*Guide me with your truth and teach me because you are my saving God; I rely on you all day long.

6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

*Remember, God, your gentle compassion and faithful love; for they have always been since the beginning.

7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.

*Don't think about my mistakes from when I was young or the wrong things I did. Instead, because you are kind, remember me for your goodness, O God.

8 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

*The LORD is good and fair. That's why he helps people who make mistakes to learn the right path.

9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

*The humble will learn from him how to make good decisions, and the humble will follow his path.

10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

*All of the Lord's ways are compassionate and honest for those who follow his agreement and his promises.

11 For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

*For your name's sake, Lord, forgive my wrongdoing; as it is significant.

12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

*Who is the person who fears God? He will teach them the right path they want to follow.

13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

*His soul will be at peace; and his children will have the earth as their inheritance.

14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

*The LORD's secret is for those who respect him, and he will reveal his agreement to them.

15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.

*I always look to the Lord; because he will save me from danger.

16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

*Turn to me, be kind to me; I'm sad and suffering a lot.

17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.

*My heart's problems have grown big: Please help me escape these troubles.

18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

*See my troubles and my hurt; and pardon all my wrongs.

19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

*Think about my enemies, because there are lots of them; and they really dislike me a lot.

20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.

*Please save and protect my soul, don't let me feel embarrassed; because I believe in you.

21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.

*Let honesty and fairness protect me; as I patiently wait for you.

22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

*Save Israel, God, from all their problems.
