1
O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
*Dear Lord, God of my safety, I've called out to you all day and night.
2
Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;
*Let me talk to you through prayer: listen carefully to when I call out to you.
3
For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
*My soul is very worried, and I'm close to death.
4
I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:
*I'm considered with those going to a deep place: I'm like someone without any power.
5
Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
*Among the dead people, you are free, like those who were killed and now lie in graves, and you are forgotten by God.
6
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
*You have placed me in the deepest hole, in darkness, in the depths.
7
Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
*Your anger is strong against me, and you have troubled me with all your waves. (Selah)
8
Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
*You have distanced my friends from me; you have made them hate me. I'm trapped and can't get out.
9
Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
*My eye is sad because of trouble: Lord, I've asked you every day, and reached out my hands to you.
10
Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
*Will you display miracles for the dead? Will the dead rise and praise you? Selah.
11
Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
*Will your kindness be known in death, or your loyalty during destruction?
12
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
*Will your miracles be known in the darkness, and your justice in the land of forgetting?
13
But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
*I called out to you, God, and in the morning, my prayer will reach you first.
14
LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
*LORD, why do you ignore my soul? why are you hiding your face from me?
15
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
*I'm suffering and feel like dying, it's been this way since I was young. While enduring your scary actions, I'm confused and can't focus.
16
Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
*Your intense anger overwhelms me; your terrifying actions have separated me from everything.
17
They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.
*They surrounded me every day like water, all coming at once.
18
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.
*You have removed lovers and friends from me and plunged my familiar people into darkness.
