1
I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication.
*I called out to God using my voice; I prayed to God using my voice.
2
I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.
*I told him about my problem and worry.
3
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.
*When I felt too tired inside, you knew what I needed. People secretly set a trap for me while I was walking.
4
I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.
*I checked my right side and saw nobody who knew me. My safe place didn't help; no one cared about my life.
5
I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.
*I called out to you, God: I said, You are my protection and what I have in the land of the living.
6
Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.
*Listen to my call, as I'm feeling weak. Save me from my enemies, as they are too powerful for me.
7
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
*Free my soul from captivity so I can praise your name. Surround me with righteous people, because you will be very kind to me.
