1
I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
*I will praise you, Lord, because you have lifted me up and did not let my enemies celebrate over me.
2
O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
*Dear God, I called out to you and you made me well again.
3
O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
*O GOD, you saved my life from death; you kept me living so I wouldn't fall into the deep pit.
4
Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
*Sing to God, all his faithful people, and thank him for remembering his purity.
5
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
*His anger lasts just a little bit; good things come to those he likes; sadness might last all night, but happiness comes in the daylight.
6
And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
*In good times, I thought I'd always stay safe.
7
LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
*LORD, you make my strength strong through your kindness; but when you hid your face, I felt worried.
8
I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.
*I called out to God, and to God I prayed for help.
9
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
*What good does my blood do when I die, since dust cannot praise you or tell your truth?
10
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
*Listen, God, and show me kindness: Please help me, God.
11
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
*You have changed my sadness into joy for me: you have taken away my ragged clothes and wrapped me in happiness.
12
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
*So that my praise can always honor you, and never stop. Oh Lord, my God, I will thank you forever.
