1
Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
*Please me, God: people are trying to defeat me; they fight and oppress me every day.
2
Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
*My enemies want to devour me every day; there are many who fight against me, God above.
3
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
*When I'm scared, I'll trust in you.
4
In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
*I will praise God for his promises and trust in him; I won't be scared of what people can do to me.
5
Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
*Every day, people twist my words. All their thoughts are against me with bad intentions.
6
They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
*They come together, they hide, they watch my path, as they wait for me.
7
Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
*Will they avoid wrongdoing? In your anger, God, do you punish the people?
8
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
*You record my journeys: you store my tears in a container: aren't they written in your book?
9
When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
*When I call to you, my opponents will leave. I know this because God is on my side.
10
In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
*I will praise God for his message, and I will praise the Lord for his message.
11
In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
*I trust in God; I won't fear what people can do to me.
12
Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
*God, I promise to honor you, and I will give you thanks and praise.
13
For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
*Because you saved my life from death, will you not also save my feet from stumbling so I can walk with God in the light of the living?
