1
Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
*Praise the Lord, my soul, and everything inside me. Give thanks to His sacred name.
2
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
*Praise the Lord, my spirit, and never forget all the good things He has done for you.
3
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
*Who pardons all your wrongdoings; who cures all your illnesses;
4
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
*Who saves your life from ruin; who adorns you with kindness and gentle mercies;
5
Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
*Who fills your mouth with good things, making you feel young again, just like an eagle.
6
The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
*The Lord carries out fairness and just decisions to help those being treated unfairly.
7
He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
*He showed Moses how he works, and told the Israelites about his actions.
8
The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
*The LORD is kind and loving, patient with anger, and full of compassion.
9
He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
*He won't scold forever; he won't hold onto his anger indefinitely.
10
He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
*He has not treated us based on our wrongdoings; nor punished us for our misdeeds.
11
For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
*As high as the sky is above the ground, that's how big his kindness is to those who respect him.
12
As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
*As far apart as east and west are, that's how much he has separated our wrongdoings from us.
13
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
*Just like a father shows compassion to his children, the Lord also shows compassion to those who fear Him.
14
For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
*He knows our nature; he remembers that we are just like dirt.
15
As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
*A person's life is like grass: just like a field flower, they bloom for a time.
16
For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
*The wind goes over it and disappears; the place won't recognize it again.
17
But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;
*But God's kindness lasts forever for those who respect Him, and His fairness goes on for many generations.
18
To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
*For those who follow his promises and remember his commands, doing them.
19
The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
*The Lord has set up His throne in heaven, and His kingdom controls everything.
20
Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
*Praise the Lord, His angels who are strong and obey His commands, listening to His voice.
21
Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.
*Praise the Lord, all you who serve him; you, his helpers, who carry out his wishes.
22
Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.
*Praise the Lord, for everything He has made everywhere He rules; praise the Lord, my inner self.
