Chapter 11
Back to Chapters
1
In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?
*I believe in the LORD; why do you tell my soul to run like a bird to a mountain?
2
For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.
*Be careful, because wicked people are preparing their bows and arrows to secretly attack honest people.
3
If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
*If the basic things are ruined, how can good people act?
4
The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
*The LORD is in His sacred place; He sits on a throne in heaven. He watches and examines all people closely.
5
The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
*God tests those who are good, but he hates the wicked and those who love violence.
6
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
*He will send down traps, fire, and terrible storms on bad people. This is what their cup of punishment will hold.
7
For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
*The righteous LORD loves fairness; he looks at those who do what is right.
