Chapter 6
Back to Chapters
1
O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
*O GOD, don't scold me when you're angry, and don't punish me when you're really upset.
2
Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
*Please, Lord, be kind to me because I'm not strong. Lord, make me better, as my bones are troubled.
3
My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
*My heart is very troubled, but, oh God, when will you act?
4
Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.
*Please come back, Lord, and rescue my life; save me because of your kindness.
5
For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
*Because when you die, nobody remembers you; in the grave, who will thank you?
6
I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
*I'm tired of crying; all night, I make my bed float; I wet my sleeping place with my tears.
7
Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
*My eye is constantly filled with sadness due to the many people against me, causing it to age quickly.
8
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
*Go away from me, everyone who does bad things; because the LORD has heard my crying.
9
The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
*The Lord has listened to my request; the Lord will accept my prayer.
10
Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
*Let everyone who opposes me feel embarrassed and upset; they should quickly become ashamed.
