Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
*Praise the Lord because it feels great to sing to our God. It's nice and looks good too.
2
The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
*The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem; he brings back the rejected people of Israel.
3
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
*He mends the hearts that are broken and fixes their hurts.
4
He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
*He counts how many stars there are; he knows and names each one.
5
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
*Our Lord is very powerful and has huge strength. He knows everything without limits.
6
The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
*The Lord raises the humble: He pushes the bad people down to the ground.
7
Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
*Sing to God with gratitude; play the harp to praise our divine Savior.
8
Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
*Who covers the sky with clouds, who makes rain for the land, who causes plants to grow on the mountains.
9
He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
*He gives food to the wild animals and to the baby ravens that call out.
10
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
*He doesn't enjoy a horse's strength, nor does he find joy in a person's legs.
11
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
*God enjoys people who respect and trust Him, those who rely on His kindness.
12
Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
*Praise the Lord, Jerusalem; praise your God, Zion.
13
For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.
*He has made your gate strong; he has given you blessings on your children inside.
14
He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
*He brings peace to your boundaries and fills you with the best wheat.
15
He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.
*He sends out his orders on Earth; his words travel extremely fast.
16
He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
*He gives snow that looks like soft wool: he scatters frost like ash.
17
He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
*He throws out his icy pieces like bits of food: who can endure his extreme coldness?
18
He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
*He sends out his message, melting them. He makes the wind blow, and the water flows.
19
He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
*He shows his message to Jacob, and his rules and decisions to Israel.
20
He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
*He has never treated another nation like this, and no one knows his judgments. Praise the Lord.
