1
In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel.
*God is well-known in Judah; his name is very important in Israel.
2
In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.
*In Salem, too, is his home, and his living space is in Zion.
3
There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.
*He broke the arrows from the bow, the shield, the sword, and the fight. Pause and reflect.
4
Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.
*You are more magnificent and wonderful than any mountain full of treasures.
5
The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.
*Brave people have become weak; they've had their rest: no strong individuals can use their strength now.
6
At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.
*When you scold, God of Jacob, the riding car and horse fall into a deep, silent rest.
7
Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?
*You are to be feared, and it's unknown who can stand before you when you're angry.
8
Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still,
*You made judgement heard from heaven; the earth became afraid and stopped moving.
9
When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.
*When God stood for justice, to rescue all the humble on Earth. Pause.
10
Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.
*Of course, people's anger will show how great you are. You should calm down the rest of the anger.
11
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
*Promise and give to the Lord God. Let everyone around Him bring gifts to Him, for He is worthy of fear.
12
He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.
*He will stop the power of leaders; he is frightening to kings around the world.
