Chapter 36
Back to Chapters
1
The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
*The wicked person's wrongdoing makes me understand that they don't fear God and have no respect for Him.
2
For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
*He thinks highly of himself and believes his own lies, until his wrongdoing is seen as disgusting.
3
The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
*His speech is full of wrongdoing and lies; he stopped being smart and doing good things.
4
He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
*He plans trouble while lying in bed; he sets himself on a wrong path; he doesn't dislike doing wrong things.
5
Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
*Your kindness, Lord, is found in the sky, and your loyalty goes up to the clouds.
6
Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.
*Your fairness is as big as huge mountains; your decisions are very deep indeed: Oh God, you protect people and animals.
7
How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
*How wonderful is your kindness, God! That's why people rely on your protection, like being under your wings.
8
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
*They will have plenty in your home's richness, and you will let them drink from the river of your joys.
9
For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
*Because you have the source of life, in your brightness we will find understanding.
10
O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
*Keep being kind to those who know you, and be just to those with honest hearts.
11
Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
*Don't let arrogance trip me up and don't let evil people push me away.
12
There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
*The wicked workers have failed; they've fallen and can't get up.
