Chapter 82
Back to Chapters
1
God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
*God stands with powerful people; he makes decisions between other gods.
2
How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
*For how much longer will you unfairly judge, and accept the people of the evil ones? Pause for reflection.
3
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
*Protect the poor and those without parents, and be fair to the hurt and those in need.
4
Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
*Help the poor and helpless: free them from the bad people's control.
5
They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
*They don't know or understand; they keep going in darkness: all the earth's foundations are messed up.
6
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
*I've said, "You are like gods"; and everyone here is a child of the greatest ruler.
7
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
*But you will die like everyone else, and fall like a powerful leader.
8
Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
*Wake up, God! Judge the world because you'll own all the countries.
