1
O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
*O GOD, our God, how great is your name everywhere! You have put your greatness higher than the sky.
2
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
*From little kids' mouths, you give power against your enemies, so you can silence them and their revenge.
3
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
*When I think about your sky, made by your hand, the moon and stars you have set in place;
4
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
*"What are humans that you think about them? And why do you pay attention to people, your children?"
5
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
*You made humans just below angels, giving them glory and honor.
6
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
*You made him in charge of everything you created; you placed everything under his control.
7
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
*All sheep, cows, and other wild animals.
8
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
*The birds in the sky, the fish in the ocean, and all creatures that move through the waters.
9
O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
*Dear God, you are so great! Your name is wonderful everywhere on Earth.
