1
Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
*Listen to my prayer, God, pay attention to my requests: in your trustworthiness, answer me, and in your fairness.
2
And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
*Do not argue with your servant about right or wrong, because no person can truly be righteous in your eyes while they are still alive.
3
For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
*The enemy has relentlessly pursued me, causing great harm to my life and forcing me into a dark place, like someone who has been dead for a long time.
4
Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.
*So, my spirit feels too full because of deep sadness, and my heart is very lonely inside.
5
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
*I recall past times; I think about everything you have done; I ponder the things you have made.
6
I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
*I reach out to you: my soul longs for you, like a dry land needing water. (Pause)
7
Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
*Listen to me quickly, Lord: my spirit is weak. Don't hide your face from me or I might be like those who go down to the grave.
8
Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
*Make me hear your kindness in the morning, because I trust you. Show me the right path, as I look to you with my whole heart.
9
Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
*Save me, Lord, from my enemies; I run to you for protection.
10
Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
*Teach me to follow your plans, because you are my God; your spirit is wonderful; guide me to a place of righteousness.
11
Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
*Make me quick, Lord, because of your name: save me through your fairness, freeing my life from danger.
12
And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
*Please remove my enemies with your kindness, and eliminate everyone who hurts me, because I am your devoted follower.
