Chapter 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

*God is my guide; I have everything I need.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

*He makes me rest in grassy fields; he guides me to quiet streams.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

*He renews my spirit; he guides me on the path of goodness for the sake of his reputation.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

*Yes, even if I go through a difficult time where danger is near, I won't be afraid because you are with me. Your guidance and protection give me strength.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

*You set a table for me even when my enemies are around; you put oil on my head and my cup is full to the brim.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

*Of course, kindness and care will be with me throughout my life: and I will live in God's home forever.
