1
Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
*Listen to my call, God of fairness: you helped me when I was in trouble; show me kindness and listen to my prayer.
2
O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
*People, for how long will you change my honor to disgrace? How long will you love worthless things and pursue fleeting pleasures? Consider this carefully.
3
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
*But understand, the LORD chooses good people for himself; the LORD listens when I call to him.
4
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
*Stand in amazement, don't do wrong: talk to yourself in your heart when you're lying down, and be quiet. Pause.
5
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
*Offer good deeds to God, and believe in Him.
6
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
*Many people ask, Who will show us goodness? Lord, please shine your light on us.
7
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
*You have made my heart joyful, even more than when there was an abundance of grain and wine.
8
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
*I'll rest peacefully and sleep, because you, Lord, are the one who keeps me safe.
