1
Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
*Not to us, Lord, but to your name give glory because of your mercy and truth.
2
Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
*Why would non-believers ask, Where is their God now?
3
But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
*But our God is up in space: he does whatever makes him happy.
4
Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
*Their gods are made of silver and gold, created by people.
5
They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
*They have mouths, but they don't talk: they have eyes, but they don't see.
6
They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
*They can hear and smell, but they don't: they have ears and noses, but don't use them.
7
They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
*They have hands but don't use them; they have feet but don't walk; they don't talk with their throat.
8
They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.
*Those who create them are similar to them, and everyone who relies on them is too.
9
O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
*Trust in the Lord, Israel, for He is your aid and protection.
10
O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
*Trust in God, Aaron's family; He is their support and protection.
11
Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.
*If you respect God, believe in Him: He's their support and protection.
12
The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.
*The Lord remembers us; He will give us blessings; He will bless the people of Israel; He will bless the family of Aaron.
13
He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.
*He will bless those who respect God, whether they are big or small.
14
The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.
*The Lord will continually grow your family larger and larger, including you and your kids.
15
Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.
*You are blessed by the God who created the heavens and the earth.
16
The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
*The sky belongs to God, but God gave the Earth to people.
17
The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
*The deceased don't praise God; nor do those who are permanently quiet.
18
But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.
*But we will praise the Lord now and always. Thank the Lord.
