Chapter 105

1
O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
*Thank God and tell others about what He has done. Share His good works with everyone.
2
Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
*Sing to Him, praise Him with songs: talk about all His amazing deeds.
3
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
*Praise him for his holy name! Be happy in your hearts if you search for the LORD.
4
Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
*Look for God and His power; always search for Him.
5
Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
*Remember the amazing things he has done; his miracles and the wise words from his mouth;
6
O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
*O you descendants of Abraham, God's faithful follower, you children of Jacob, God's favorite pick.
7
He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
*He is our God, and he makes decisions everywhere on Earth.
8
He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
*He always remembers his promise forever, the order he gave for many, many generations.
9
Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
*The agreement God made with Abraham, and the promise He gave to Isaac.
10
And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
*God made a lasting agreement with Jacob and Israel, establishing it as a permanent rule.
11
Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
*I will give you the land of Canaan, it is your inheritance, says (the speaker).
12
When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.
*When there were just a few people; yes, very few and not originally from there.
13
When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
*As they traveled between different countries, moving among various nations and realms.
14
He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
*He didn't let anyone mistreat them: yes, he scolded kings for their benefit.
15
Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
*"Don't touch God's chosen ones and don't hurt my messengers."
16
Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
*He also caused a food shortage in the country: he destroyed all the sources of food.
17
He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
*He sent a person ahead of them, named Joseph, who was traded for a slave.
18
Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
*Whose feet were hurt by chains: he was placed on an iron bed.
19
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
*Until the time his word arrived, the LORD's word tested him.
20
The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
*The king ordered his release; the leader of the people set him free.
21
He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:
*He appointed him the manager of his home and in charge of everything he owned.
22
To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
*To keep his leaders under control whenever he wants; and to help his important advisors become wise.
23
Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
*Israel went to Egypt, and Jacob lived in the land of Ham's people.
24
And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.
*He grew his people much larger and made them stronger than those who opposed them.
25
He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.
*He made them dislike his people, and be sneaky towards his workers.
26
He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.
*He sent Moses, his helper; and Aaron, the person he picked.
27
They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
*They displayed his miracles for all to see, and amazing events in the land called Ham.
28
He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
*He created darkness and made things dark. People didn't disobey his message.
29
He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
*He changed their water to blood and killed their fish.
30
Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.
*Their country had many frogs, even in the king's rooms.
31
He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.
*He said something, and various types of flies and lice appeared everywhere in their areas.
32
He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.
*He sent them hail instead of rain and fiery flames in their territory.
33
He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.
*He destroyed their grape plants and fig trees too, as well as broke the trees along their shores.
34
He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,
*He said it, and countless locusts and caterpillars arrived.
35
And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
*They ate all the plants in their land and consumed the fruits from their soil.
36
He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.
*He struck down all the firstborn in their country, the most powerful of them all.
37
He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
*He led them out using silver and gold, and none of them were weak in their groups.
38
Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.
*Egypt was happy when they left: they were scared because the people leaving were frightening.
39
He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.
*He made a cloud to protect us; and fire to see in the dark.
40
The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
*The people requested, and he provided quails, filling their needs with heavenly bread.
41
He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
*He opened the rock, and water flowed out; it filled the empty areas like a river.
42
For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.
*He recalled his sacred pledge and thought about Abraham, his faithful follower.
43
And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:
*He happily brought out his people and his special ones with happiness.
44
And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
*And he gave them the lands of non-believers: and they took over the work of the people;
45
That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the LORD.
*So they can follow his rules and obey his laws, praise the Lord.
