Chapter 61
Back to Chapters
1
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
*Listen to my voice, God; pay attention to my request.
2
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
*From far away, I'll call out to you when I feel too much - help me find the high rock for safety.
3
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
*Because you have been my protection and a powerful fortress against my enemies.
4
I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
*I will stay in your shelter forever; I will rely on the protection of your wings. (A moment of reflection.)
5
For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
*You, God, have heard my promises; you've given me the inheritance of those who respect your name.
6
Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.
*You will make the king's life longer, lasting for many generations.
7
He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
*He will always be with God: Prepare kindness and honesty to protect him.
8
So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.
*I will always praise your name, so I can keep promising you things every day.
