1
O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.
*Dear God, my heart is set; I will sing and be happy, showing my joy.
2
Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
*"Wake up, stringed instruments! I will wake up early myself."
3
I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.
*I will thank you, God, in front of everyone. And I will sing your praises in front of all the different groups of people.
4
For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.
*Your kindness is huge compared to the sky, and your truth goes way up into the clouds.
5
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;
*Be high, God, higher than the sky, and be famous everywhere on the land.
6
That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.
*Please rescue your dear one; use your powerful hand to save them, and respond to my request.
7
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
*God has spoken in his purity; I will be happy, I will split Shechem, and measure the land of Succoth.
8
Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
*Gilead belongs to me, Manasseh belongs to me, and Ephraim is my strong support. Judah is my rule-maker.
9
Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.
*Moab is like my cleaning bowl, on Edom I'll throw my shoe away, and over Philistia I'll celebrate victory.
10
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
*Who will guide me to the fortified city? Who will take me to Edom?
11
Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?
*Will you, God, not abandon us? And will you, God, not go with our army?
12
Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
*Please us with difficulty help: as human aid is useless.
13
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
*With God's help, we will be brave. He will defeat our enemies for us.
