Chapter 95

1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

*Come, let's happily sing to God! Let's loudly celebrate the rock that saves us.

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

*Come before God happily, thanking Him, and sing joyful songs to Him.

3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

*The LORD is a huge, powerful God, even bigger than any other god. He's the best king too!

4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

*He controls the depths of the earth, including the strength of mountains.

5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

*The sea belongs to him; he created it. He also shaped the land that's not wet.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

*Come, let's worship and bend down; let's kneel before the LORD who made us.

7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

*He is our God, and we are his followers, like sheep in his care. If you listen today, you'll hear his voice.

8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

*Don't make your heart stubborn like when you're angry or when you're tempted in the desert.

9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.

*When your ancestors tested me, checked me, and watched what I did.

10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:

*For 40 years, I was upset with this group of people, telling myself that they make mistakes in their hearts and don't understand my ways.

11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

*To whom I swore, when I was angry, that they would not join the peaceful part of life.
