1
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
*Blessed is the person who thinks about the needy. God will save them when they are in trouble.
2
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
*God will protect and keep him alive; he'll be blessed on Earth. You won't hand him over to his enemies' wishes.
3
The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
*God will give him strength when he's very weak in bed. He will make his bed comfortable when he's sick.
4
I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
*I asked God, "Please be kind to me: fix my heart; as I've done wrong to you."
5
Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
*My opponents say bad things about me. When will they die, and their names be forgotten?
6
And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
*If someone visits me, they talk nonsense. Their heart collects wickedness and when they leave, they share it with others.
7
All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
*People who don't like me talk secretly about me: they plan to harm me.
8
An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
*They say an evil sickness has strongly attached to him, and now that he's lying down, he won't get up again.
9
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
*Yes, my close friend, the one I relied on, who ate my food, has turned against me and raised their foot in opposition.
10
But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
*But you, Lord, have mercy on me and lift me up so I can repay them.
11
By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
*I understand that you like me because my opponent isn't winning over me.
12
And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
*And for me, you maintain my honesty and always keep me close to you forever.
13
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
*Praised is the eternal God of Israel now and forevermore. Yes, yes indeed.
