Chapter 101

1 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing.

*I will sing about kindness and fairness: to you, Lord, will I sing.

2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

*I will act wisely and perfectly. When will you be with me? I will walk in my home with a pure heart.

3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

*I won't let anything bad be seen by me: I dislike what those who go astray do; it won't stick to me.

4 A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.

*A stubborn heart will be far from me; I won't be friends with a bad person.

5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

*I will remove anyone who secretly speaks ill of their neighbor. I won't tolerate someone with a haughty gaze and a proud heart.

6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

*My eyes will watch over those who are loyal to me on Earth, so they can live with me. The one who follows a blameless path will be my servant.

7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

*Anyone who does dishonest work won't live with me; anyone who tells lies won't stay around me.

8 I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

*I will quickly remove all bad people from the land so I can eliminate all those who do wrong in the Lord's city.
