Chapter 91

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

*Who lives in God's hidden, safe place will be protected by His all-powerful shadow.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

*I'll say that the Lord is my protection and strong shelter. He's my God, and I trust Him completely.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

*He will definitely save you from the hunter's trap and the terrible disease.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

*He will protect you with his feathers, and you'll find safety under his wings. His truth will be your shield and defender.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

*Don't be scared of nighttime dangers or arrows flying during the day.

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

*Not for the sickness that comes in the dark, nor for the ruin that destroys in broad daylight.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

*A thousand people may fall near you, and ten thousand more on your right side, but none will harm you.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

*With your eyes, you will only see the reward of the bad people.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

*Because you have made the Lord, my protection, the highest one, your home.

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

*No harm will come to you, and no disease will approach your home.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

*He will tell his angels to protect you everywhere you go.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

*They will support you so you don't hurt your foot on a rock.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

*You will step on the lion and snake; you will crush the young lion and dragon with your feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

*Because he loves me, I'll save him: I'll elevate him since he knows my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

*He will ask for my help, and I will reply: I'll be there when he's in trouble; I'll save him and give him respect.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

*I will give him a long life and show him my saving actions.
