Chapter 13

1 How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

*For how long will you forget me, Lord? forever? And for how long will you hide your face from me?

2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

*For how long should I think carefully in my mind while feeling sad every day? Why does my opponent keep being more important than me?

3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

*Listen to me, God: help me see clearly so I don't fall asleep forever.

4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.

*So my enemies don't think they beat me and those who cause me trouble don't celebrate when I'm upset.

5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

*But I believe in your kindness; my heart will be happy in your rescue.

6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

*I will sing to God, as he has been very kind to me.
