Chapter 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

*Blessed is the person who doesn't follow the advice of wicked people, doesn't hang around with those who do wrong, and doesn't sit where proud people sit.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

*He takes great joy in God's teachings and thinks about them all day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

*He will be like a tree near water streams, producing fruit when it's supposed to; his leaves won't dry up and whatever he does will succeed.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

*The wicked aren't like that; they're more like the light, worthless parts of grain that the wind scatters.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

*So, the bad people won't be able to stay in the judgment, and wrongdoers won't be part of the good people's group.

6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

*The Lord knows the path of good people, but the path of bad people will be destroyed.
