Chapter 138

1 I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.

*I will happily thank you with all my heart. I will sing your praises even in front of other powerful beings.

2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

*I will honor your sacred place and praise your name for your kindness and truth. You have made your words more important than your name.

3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.

*On the day I called out to you, you answered and gave me inner strength.

4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.

*All the world's rulers will thank you, God, when they hear your words.

5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.

*Yes, they will sing about following the LORD because the LORD's glory is very great.

6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

*Even though God is great, He still cares about those who are humble, but He stays away from those who are arrogant.

7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

*Even when I'm surrounded by problems, you will bring me back to life; you will reach out and protect me from my enemies, and your powerful hand will save me.

8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

*God will complete what concerns me; your love, God, lasts forever; don't abandon the things you made.
