Chapter 110

1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

*The Lord told me, "Sit by my side. Stay there until I defeat your enemies. Then they'll be at your feet like a footrest."

2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

*The Lord will use your power from Zion to rule over your enemies.

3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

*In the day of your strength, your people will be eager. They will be beautiful in holiness, like morning light. You have the freshness of youth.

4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

*The Lord promises and won't change his mind; you are a forever priest, following the way of Melchizedek.

5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

*At that time, God will be on your side and defeat powerful rulers when he is very angry.

6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.

*He will judge between nations, filling lands with dead bodies and hurting leaders in many countries.

7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

*He will drink from the stream along the way, so he can raise his head up.
