Chapter 20

1 The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

*May the Lord listen to you when times are tough; may the God of Jacob protect you.

2 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;

*Ask for help from the holy place, and get strength from Zion.

3 Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.

*Remember all your gifts, and accept your burned offering; pause for reflection.

4 Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.

*Give them what they truly desire, and complete all their plans.

5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.

*We will be happy about your rescue, and using our God's name, we will put up our flags. The LORD will do everything you ask for.

6 Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

*Now, I understand that the Lord protects those he chooses; he will listen to them from his heavenly home using the power of his strong hand.

7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

*Some rely on vehicles and horses, but we will remember God's name.

8 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

*They have fallen and declined, but we have risen and now stand tall.

9 Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call.

*Save us, Lord: let the king notice our call, please.
