Chapter 3

1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

*Lord, why are so many people causing me trouble? So many are going against me.

2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

*Many people say about me, "There's no hope for him with God." Selah.

3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

*But you, Lord, are my protection; my pride, and the one who raises my head.

4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

*I called to God loudly, and he listened from his sacred mountain. Selah.

5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

*I rested and fell asleep. I woke up because the Lord supported me.

6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

*I won't fear tens of thousands of people who are against me all around.

7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

*Get up, God! Save me! You've beaten all my enemies; you've broken the teeth of those who do wicked things.

8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

*Salvation belongs to the Lord; blessings are on your people. Pause and reflect.
