Chapter 47

1 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

*Clap your hands, everyone! Shout happily to God.

2 For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.

*The very high LORD is awesome; He's a big ruler over the whole world.

3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

*He will make other people obey us, and many countries will be under our control.

4 He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.

*He will select our inherited land for us, the greatness of the loved Jacob. Pause.

5 God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.

*God went up loudly, the Lord with a trumpet's noise.

6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.

*Sing about how great God is. Celebrate with songs for our wonderful King. Praise Him through singing.

7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

*God is the ruler of the whole world. Sing to him wisely and happily.

8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

*God rules over all non-believers: God sits on the throne of his purity.

9 The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.

*The leaders of the people have come together, those who follow the God of Abraham: because the world's protection belongs to God; he is highly honored.
