1
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:
*Many times they hurt me when I was young; now, Israel, say that.
2
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.
*They often caused me trouble since I was young, but they didn't win over me.
3
The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
*The farmers worked on my land, creating deep rows.
4
The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
*The Lord is fair; he has separated the ropes of the bad people.
5
Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.
*Let everyone who dislikes Zion be confused and go backward.
6
Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:
*Let them be like grass on rooftops, that dries up before it grows tall.
7
Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
*With this, the person cannot fill their hand; nor can the one who bundles sheaves fill their chest.
8
Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD.
*They pass by without saying anything, but they wish good luck. They bless you using the power of God's name.
