1 How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

*How lovely are your dwelling places, Lord Almighty!

2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

*My soul deeply longs and is eager for God's presence; my heart and body strongly desire the living God.

3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

*Yes, the little bird has found a home, and the swallow has made a nest, a place to lay its babies. Even your special places for worship, Lord of all, my King and my God.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

*Blessed are those living in your home; they constantly praise you. Break.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

*Blessed is the person whose power comes from you; who has your ways in their heart.

6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

*Whoever goes through the Valley of Baca turns it into a source of water; rain also fills the ponds there.

7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

*They keep getting stronger and stronger, and each person in Zion shows up before God.

8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

*Dear Lord, God of many armies, listen to my prayer. Pay attention, God of Jacob. Pause for a moment.

9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

*Look, God, be our protection, and pay attention to your chosen person.

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

*One day with you is better than a thousand without. I'd choose to guard your home over living with bad people.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

*The LORD God is like a sun and protector. He gives kindness and honor. He won't keep any good thing from those who live righteously.

12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

*Dear God, thank you for your powerful help. It's great to believe in you.
