1
Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.
*Dear God, I call out to you: come quickly to help me; listen carefully to my voice as I call out to you.
2
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
*Please let my prayer reach you like a sweet smell from incense, and may my raised hands be seen by you as an evening offering.
3
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
*Make sure, Lord, that I only say what is right; don't let me speak false words.
4
Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
*Don't lead my heart to do bad things or join wicked people in their wrongdoings; also, don't let me enjoy the delicious food they have.
5
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.
*Let good people correct me - it will be helpful. They should punish me too - it will be like a valuable oil that won't harm me. I'll keep praying for them even when they face troubles.
6
When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.
*When the judges lose their power in rocky areas, they will hear my messages because they taste good.
7
Our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.
*Our bones lie scattered at the gravesite, like pieces of wood being chopped and split on the ground.
8
But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.
*But I look to you, God, my Lord: in you is my hope; don't abandon my spirit.
9
Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.
*Protect me from the traps that wicked people have set for me, and the plans of those who do wrong things.
10
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.
*Let bad people get caught in their own traps, so I can safely get away.
