1
Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
*Sing happily to God, everyone on Earth:
2
Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
*Sing praises for his name; make it widely known and impressive.
3
Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
*Tell God, "You are so awesome in what you do!" Because of your huge strength, your enemies will have to obey you.
4
All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
*Everyone on Earth will praise you and sing to you. They will sing about your name. (Selah)
5
Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
*Come see what God has done. He is amazing at how he acts towards people.
6
He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.
*He made the sea into solid ground: they walked through the watery area: there we happily celebrated their help.
7
He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.
*He rules with his strength forever, watching over all nations. Let those who defy him not be proud. (Selah)
8
O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
*Praise our God, everyone, and let his glory be heard through our voices.
9
Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
*Who keeps our soul alive and doesn't let us walk away.
10
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
*You, God, have tested us; you have challenged us like how silver is purified.
11
Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
*You brought us into trouble; you placed hardship on our bodies.
12
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
*You made people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you led us to a rich place.
13
I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
*I'll bring burned sacrifices to your home. I'll fulfill my promises to you.
14
Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.
*What my lips said and my mouth spoke when I faced difficulties.
15
I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.
*I will give you burned offerings of young animals' fat, along with the fragrant smoke from strong ram incense. I will also bring you powerful bulls and goats. (A pause or moment of reflection is indicated by "Selah.")
16
Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
*Come listen, everyone who loves God, and I'll tell you what He has done for my life.
17
I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.
*I called out to him with my voice, and I praised him with my language.
18
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
*If I have wrong thoughts, God won't listen to me.
19
But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
*But truly, God has listened to me; he has paid attention to my prayer's voice.
20
Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
*Praised is God, who has not rejected my request and continues to show me kindness.
