1
Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions:
*Lord, recall David and the hardships he faced:
2
How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
*He promised to the Lord and committed to the powerful God of Jacob.
3
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
*I won't enter my home's shelter or sleep in my bed.
4
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,
*I won't let my eyes sleep or close them for rest.
5
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.
*Until I discover a spot for God, a home for the powerful God of Jacob.
6
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.
*Look, we heard about it in Ephratah; we discovered it in the forests' fields.
7
We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.
*We'll enter his temporary homes; we'll worship at the place where he rests.
8
Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.
*Get up, God, and go to your place of peace; bring with you the power of your strength.
9
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
*Dress your religious leaders in goodness, and let your holy people celebrate happily.
10
For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.
*Do not turn away from your chosen one, David's servant, please.
11
The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
*The Lord promises David truthfully; he won't change his mind; From your children, I will place on your throne.
12
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.
*If your kids follow my agreement and messages that I'll teach them, their kids will always have a place on your throne.
13
For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
*The LORD has picked Zion; he wants it as his home.
14
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
*This is where I'll always stay: I've chosen to live here because I really want to.
15
I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.
*I will give her lots of food: I will fill the hungry with bread.
16
I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
*I will dress the priests in salvation, and the holy people will loudly celebrate.
17
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.
*I will grow David's strength there: I have set up a light for my chosen one.
18
His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.
*His opponents will feel embarrassed because of him, but he will have a beautiful crown.
