1
Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
*Be happy with God, all good people, because it's nice to praise those who do right.
2
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
*Praise God using a harp: sing to Him with a small guitar and a 10-string instrument.
3
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
*Sing happily to God a new, unique song; play your instrument really well, making a big noise.
4
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
*The LORD's words are correct, and everything he does is true.
5
He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
*He loves fairness and justice; the world is filled with the LORD's kindness.
6
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
*By God's command, the sky was created, and everything in it came from His breath.
7
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
*He gathers the sea's water into a pile: he stores the deep waters in warehouses.
8
Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
*Let everyone on Earth respect God: let everyone around the world be amazed by Him.
9
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
*He said something, and it happened; he ordered something, and it stayed in place.
10
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
*The Lord makes the plans of unbelievers fail; He renders the schemes of people useless.
11
The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
*The Lord's advice always lasts forever; His thoughts are shared with every generation.
12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
*Blessed is the country with God as their leader; and the people He has picked to be His special possession.
13
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
*The Lord looks down from heaven, watching everyone on Earth.
14
From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.
*He looks at everyone on Earth from where he lives.
15
He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
*He makes their hearts similar; he looks at all they do.
16
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
*No king is saved by having many soldiers: a strong person isn't saved by having lots of strength.
17
An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
*A horse is not reliable for protection, and it can't save anyone with its immense power.
18
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
*Look, God's eye watches over those who trust and believe in His kindness and mercy.
19
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
*To save their life from dying, and to help them stay alive when there's not enough food.
20
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
*Our spirit hopes for God: He is our protection and our strength.
21
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
*Our hearts will be happy because we believe in his special name.
22
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
*Please your kindness, dear God, on us, just like how much we trust you.
