Chapter 12

1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

*Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because he married an Ethiopian woman.

2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.

*They asked, "Did the Lord only speak through Moses? Didn't he speak through us too?" The Lord heard what they said.

3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

*Moses, the man, was extremely humble, more so than any other person on the entire planet at that time.

4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.

*And God spoke to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam all at once, saying, "You three go to the meeting place." So, the three of them went.

5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.

*God appeared in a cloud, stood at the tabernacle entrance, and called Aaron and Miriam, who then came out.

6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

*He said, "Listen to my words. If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, will reveal Myself to them in a vision and talk to them in a dream."

7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.

*My servant Moses isn't like that; he's faithful in my entire home.

8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

*I will directly talk with him face-to-face, clearly and not mysteriously. He will see what is like me. So, why weren't you scared to oppose my servant Moses?

9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.

*God became very angry with them, and then he left.

10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

*The cloud left the tent, and suddenly Miriam had a skin disease, turning very white like snow. Aaron saw her, and she was also leprous.

11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.

*Aaron told Moses, "Oh, my lord, please don't blame us for the wrong things we did foolishly and that were also sins."

12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.

*Don't let her be like someone who isn't alive, with half their body wasted when they come out of their mom's belly.

13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.

*Moses called out to God, asking him to heal her immediately, please.

14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.

*And God told Moses, if someone spat in a girl's face, wouldn't she feel shame for a week? So, keep her away from the camp for seven days, then welcome her back after that.

15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

*Miriam was excluded from the camp for seven days, and the people didn't travel until she returned.

16 And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.

*Afterward, the people left Hazeroth and set up camp in the desert called Paran.
