Tells about the Israelites' 40 years in the desert, including their travels and the census of their tribes.

Chapter 13

KJV: And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Geneva: (13:2) And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

KJV: Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

Geneva: (13:3) Sende thou men out to search the lande of Canaan which I giue vnto the children of Israel: of euery tribe of their fathers shall ye sende a man, such as are all rulers among them.

KJV: And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

Geneva: (13:4) Then Moses sent them out of the wildernesse of Paran at the commandement of the Lorde: all those men were heades of the children of Israel.

KJV: And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

Geneva: (13:5) Also their names are these: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the sonne of Zaccur:

KJV: Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

Geneva: (13:6) Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the sonne of Hori:

KJV: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

Geneva: (13:7) Of the tribe of Iudah, Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh:

KJV: Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

Geneva: (13:8) Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the sonne of Ioseph:

KJV: Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.

Geneva: (13:9) Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the sone of Nun:

KJV: Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

Geneva: (13:10) Of the tribe of Beniamin, Palti the sonne of Raphu:

KJV: Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

Geneva: (13:11) Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the sone of Sodi:

KJV: Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

Geneva: (13:12) Of the tribe of Ioseph, to wit, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the sonne of Susi:

KJV: Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

Geneva: (13:13) Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the sonne of Gemalli:

KJV: Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

Geneva: (13:14) Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the sonne of Michael:

KJV: Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

Geneva: (13:15) Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the sonne of Vophsi:

KJV: Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

Geneva: (13:16) Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the sonne of Machi.

KJV: These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

Geneva: (13:17) These are the names of the men, which Moses sent to spie out the lande: and Moses called ye name of Oshea the sonne of Nun, Iehoshua.

KJV: And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

Geneva: (13:18) So Moses sent them to spie out the lande of Canaan, & said vnto them, Go vp this way toward the South, and go vp into the moutaines,

KJV: And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;

Geneva: (13:19) And consider the land what it is, and the people that dwel therein, whether they be strong or weake, either fewe or many,

KJV: And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

Geneva: (13:20) Also what the lande is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad: and what cities they be, that they dwell in, whether they dwell in tents, or in walled townes:

KJV: And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

Geneva: (13:21) And what the land is: whether it be fat or leane, whether there be trees therein, or not. And be of good courage, and bring of the fruite of the lande (for then was the time of the first ripe grapes)

KJV: So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

Geneva: (13:22) So they went vp, and searched out the lande, from the wildernesse of Zin vnto Rehob, to go to Hamath,

KJV: And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Geneva: (13:23) And they ascended toward the South, and came vnto Hebron, where were Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the sonnes of Anak; Hebron was built seuen yeere before Zoan in Egypt.

KJV: And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

Geneva: (13:24) Then they came to the riuer of Eshcol, and cut downe thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it vpon a barre betwene two, and brought of the pomegranates and of the figges.

KJV: The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

Geneva: (13:25) That place was called the riuer Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes, which the children of Israel cut downe thence.

KJV: And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

Geneva: (13:26) Then after fourtie dayes, they turned againe from searching of the land.

KJV: And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

Geneva: (13:27) And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and vnto al the Congregation of the children of Israel, in the wildernesse of Paran, to Kadesh, and brought to the, and to all the Congregation tydings, and shewed them the fruite of the lande.

KJV: And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

Geneva: (13:28) And they tolde him, and saide, We came vnto the land whither thou hast sent vs, and surely it floweth with milke and honie: and here is of the fruite of it.

KJV: Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

Geneva: (13:29) Neuerthelesse the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled and exceeding great: and moreouer, we sawe the sonnes of Anak there.

KJV: The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

Geneva: (13:30) The Amalekites dwell in the South countrey, and the Hittites, and the Iebusites, & the Amorites dwell in the mountaines, & the Canaanites dwell by the sea, & by the coast of Iorden.

KJV: And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

Geneva: (13:31) Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses, & saide, Let vs go vp at once, and possesse it: for vndoubtedly we shall ouercome it.

KJV: But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

Geneva: (13:32) But the men, that went vp with him, saide, we be not able to goe vp against the people: for they are stronger then we.

KJV: And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Geneva: (13:33) So they brought vp an euill report of the land which they had searched for the children of Israel, saying, The lande which we haue gone through to search it out, is a land that eateth vp the inhabitants thereof: for all the people that we sawe in it, are men of great stature.

KJV: And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Geneva: (13:34) For there we sawe gyants, the sonnes of Anak, which come of the gyants, so that we seemed in our sight like grashoppers: and so wee were in their sight.
