Chapter 30

1 And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded.

*Moses talked to the tribe leaders about the children of Israel, saying, "This is what God wants done."

2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

*If a person makes a promise to God or swears an oath, they must keep their word and do what they said they would do.

3 If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;

*If a girl makes a promise to God while living with her dad when she's young, she really means it.

4 And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.

*When her father hears her promise and the commitment she made, and if he doesn't say anything, then all her promises will be valid, and every commitment she made will be valid too.

5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.

*But if her dad says no when he hears it, none of her promises or commitments she made will be valid; and the LORD will forgive her because her dad didn't allow it.

6 And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;

*And if she had a husband when she made a promise or said anything that bound her heart.

7 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.

*And when her husband heard it, he didn't say anything to her. On that day, her promises will stay, and the ties she made to bind her heart will also stay.

8 But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive her.

*But if a woman's husband doesn't allow her to keep a promise after hearing it; then he must make her promise void, and whatever she said with her lips that binds her, will not matter. The Lord will then forgive her.

9 But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her.

*But any promise made by a widow or a divorced woman will be binding for them.

10 And if she vowed in her husband’s house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath;

*And if she promised while living with her husband, or committed her soul to something with a promise.

11 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.

*And her husband listened but said nothing to her, and didn't stop her. So, all her promises will be valid, and every agreement she made with her heart will be valid too.

12 But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall forgive her.

*But if a wife's promises are invalidated by her husband when he learns about them, then whatever she promised with her words won't count - her husband canceled them. God will forgive her.

13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.

*Every promise and commitment to cause suffering for someone's heart, a person's spouse can either put it into effect or cancel it.

14 But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.

*But if a man doesn't say anything when his wife makes promises or follows rules every day, then he agrees with everything she has promised or bound herself to. He confirms them because he didn't object when he heard them.

15 But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity.

*But if he ignores them after hearing, then he will share her guilt.

16 These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.

*These are the rules that God told Moses for relationships: between a husband and wife, and between a dad and his young daughter, while she still lives with her father.
