Tells about the Israelites' 40 years in the desert, including their travels and the census of their tribes.

Chapter 6

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:

*Tell the people of Israel, "When a person, whether a man or a woman, decides to make a special promise called a Nazarite vow to dedicate themselves to God, they must do so."

3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

*He will avoid all alcoholic drinks and not consume any grape-based beverages or eat fresh or dried grapes.

4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.

*For the time he's away, he can't eat anything from the grape plant - not the inside part nor the outside part.

5 All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.

*For the duration of his promise to be separate, no razor should touch his head. He must remain holy and let his hair grow until the time of separation is complete, which he dedicated to the Lord.

6 All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.

*When he separates himself to the Lord, he won't be unlucky enough to encounter a dead body.

7 He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.

*He shouldn't become impure for his dad, mom, brother, or sister when they pass away. This is because his God's sacredness is on his head.

8 All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD.

*During the time he is separate, he is sacred to God.

9 And if any man die very suddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his consecration; then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it.

*If a person unexpectedly dies near someone who is being spiritually purified, that person must shave their head when they are cleansed on the seventh day.

10 And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

*On the eighth day, he must give the priest either two turtles or two young pigeons at the tabernacle's entrance for the group of people.

11 And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day.

*The priest will offer one for a sin offering and another for a burnt offering to forgive the person for wrongdoing related to death. He will also dedicate his head on the same day.

12 And he shall consecrate unto the LORD the days of his separation, and shall bring a lamb of the first year for a trespass offering: but the days that were before shall be lost, because his separation was defiled.

*He will make the time he spent separate holy for the Lord, and bring a young lamb as a sacrifice for his mistake. The earlier days won't count because his separation was not pure.

13 And this is the law of the Nazarite, when the days of his separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

*This is the rule for a Nazarite when their time of separation ends: they must go to the entrance of the meeting place for the group.

14 And he shall offer his offering unto the LORD, one he lamb of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish for a sin offering, and one ram without blemish for peace offerings,

*He will give an offering to God: a young, flawless lamb for burning, another young, flawless female sheep for sin, and a male sheep without flaws for making peace.

15 And a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread anointed with oil, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings.

*A basket with flat bread, special cake made from fine flour mixed with oil, thin flat bread with oil on it, their food they offer, and their drink they offer.

16 And the priest shall bring them before the LORD, and shall offer his sin offering, and his burnt offering:

*The priest will present these offerings to God, including the sin offering and the burnt offering.

17 And he shall offer the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, with the basket of unleavened bread: the priest shall offer also his meat offering, and his drink offering.

*He will bring a ram for a peace offering to God, along with a basket of unleavened bread. The priest will also offer the ram's meat and drink.

18 And the Nazarite shall shave the head of his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.

*The Nazarite will shave their head at the entrance of the meeting place, then put the hair in the fire beneath the offering for peace.

19 And the priest shall take the sodden shoulder of the ram, and one unleavened cake out of the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and shall put them upon the hands of the Nazarite, after the hair of his separation is shaven:

*The priest will take the cooked ram's shoulder, along with an unleavened bread and a small flat bread from the basket. He will then place these items in the hands of the Nazarite once their hair for separation has been shaved off.

20 And the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: this is holy for the priest, with the wave breast and heave shoulder: and after that the Nazarite may drink wine.

*The priest will wave them as a special offering to God. This part is holy for the priest, including the wave breast and lifted shoulder. After this, the Nazarite can drink wine.

21 This is the law of the Nazarite who hath vowed, and of his offering unto the LORD for his separation, beside that that his hand shall get: according to the vow which he vowed, so he must do after the law of his separation.

*This is the rule for the Nazarite who made a promise, and their special gift to God for being set apart, in addition to what they earn: they must follow the promise they made according to the rules of their separation.

22 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

*And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,

*Tell Aaron and his sons, "In this way, you should bless the people of Israel by saying to them,

24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

*The Lord will bless you and protect you.

25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

*May the LORD brightly look upon you and show you kindness.

26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

*The Lord lifts His face towards you, giving you peace.

27 And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

*They will write my name on the people of Israel, and I will give them my blessing.
