Chapter 52

1 Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

*Wake up, Zion! Get strong! Put on your nice clothes, Jerusalem, the holy city! From now on, those who aren't circumcised and those who are unclean won't enter you anymore.

2 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

*Shake off the dirt; stand up and sit down, Jerusalem; free yourself from the ropes around your neck, captured daughter of Zion.

3 For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.

*So says the Lord, you've sold yourselves for nothing; you will be redeemed without paying any money.

4 For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.

*So says the Lord God: My people once went to Egypt to live temporarily. The Assyrians also mistreated them unjustly.

5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

*So now, the Lord asks, why have I allowed this to happen to my people? Those in charge cause them to suffer and cry out, says the Lord, and my name is constantly being disrespected every day.

6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.

*So my people will learn about me. On that day, they'll understand that I'm the one speaking, and it's really me.

7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

*How lovely on the mountains are the feet of the one bringing good news, announcing peace. They bring good news, proclaiming salvation, and say to Zion, "Your God is in charge!"

8 Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.

*Your guards will raise their voices together in song, because they will all see things the same way when the LORD returns Zion.

9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

*Rejoice and sing together, abandoned areas of Jerusalem! The Lord has brought comfort to his people and saved Jerusalem.

10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

*The Lord has shown His holy power to everyone around the world, and all people at the edges of the Earth will see how our God saves us.

11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD.

*Leave, leave, go away from there, don't touch anything unclean; leave the center of her; be clean, those who carry the Lord's items.

12 For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward.

*You won't need to hurry or flee quickly, because the Lord will go ahead of you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

*Look, my helper will be wise, they will be raised up and praised, and will be .

14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

*Many people were amazed by you; his face was badly damaged more than anyone else, and his appearance more than any other person.

15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

*He will spray many countries; the kings will be amazed by him because they'll see things that weren't shared with them, and think about things they never heard before.
