Chapter 6

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

*In the year King Uzziah passed away, I saw the Lord on a big throne, way up high, and His robe stretched all the way across the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

*Above it, the seraphim creatures stood. Each had six wings. Two wings covered their faces, two covered their feet, and with the remaining two, they could fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

*One person called to another and said, "Holy, holy, holy is God Almighty! The entire world is filled with His greatness."

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

*The doorposts shook when someone shouted, and the house became full of smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

*Then I said, "I'm doomed! I'm ruined!" Because I'm a person with dirty mouth, living among other people with dirty mouths. And I saw the King, the Lord of all powerful armies, with my own eyes.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

*Then, an angel flew to me with a burning piece of coal in its hand. It took it from the altar using special tongs.

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

*He put it on my mouth and said, "Look, this has touched your lips; your wrongdoing is gone, and your sin is wiped clean."

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

*I heard the Lord's voice asking, "Who will go for us?" So, I replied, "Here I am. Send me."

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

*He said, "Go and tell the people, 'You can hear and see, but you don't really understand or notice.'"

10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

*Make people's hearts full, their ears hard, and their eyes closed. This way, they won't see, hear, or understand, and won't be able to change or get better.

11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,

*Then I asked, "Lord, how much longer?" He replied, "Until the cities are empty with no people, the homes vacant with no one in them, and the land completely deserted."

12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.

*And God drives people away, leaving a big abandonment in the middle of the area.

13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

*But still, within it there will be a tenth that returns and gets eaten. It's like a teak tree and an oak tree. These trees keep some of their strength even when they lose their leaves. In the same way, the holy seed will be the source of strength for it.
