Chapter 29

1
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
*He who keeps ignoring correction will suddenly face sudden destruction with no fix.
2
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
*When good leaders are in charge, people are happy. But when bad leaders rule, people are sad.

Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
*Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to their father, but those who hang out with prostitutes waste their money.

The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
*The king who makes fair decisions keeps the country stable, but someone who accepts bribes causes its downfall.

A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
*A person who praises their neighbor too much is secretly trying to trap them.

In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
*In doing wrong, bad people get trapped, but good people happily sing and celebrate.

The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
*The righteous person thinks about the needs of the poor, but the wicked person doesn't care to understand it.

Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
*Mockers can trap a city, but smart people avoid anger.

If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
*If a smart person argues with a dumb person, whether they get angry or joke, there is no peace.

The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
*Bad people don't like good people: but fair people want to be close to them.

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
*A foolish person says everything on their mind, but a smart person waits to say it later.

If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
*If a leader listens to lies, all his helpers are bad.

The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.
*The poor and dishonest person join forces; God brightens their eyes.

The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
*The king who fairly helps the needy will have his rule last forever.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
*Using a stick and teaching correct behavior gives wisdom, but if a child is not disciplined, he makes his mom feel embarrassed.

When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
*When there are more bad people, wrongdoings grow: but good people will see the bad ones fail.

Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
*Teach your child well, and they will bring you peace and joy in life.

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
*Without a plan, people fail, but following the rules brings happiness.

A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
*A worker won't change from talking: because even if they get it, they won't reply.

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
*Do you see someone who speaks quickly without thinking? There is more hope for a foolish person than for them.

He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
*He who carefully raises his servant from childhood will eventually consider him as his son.

An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
*An angry person causes trouble, and a very angry person does many wrong things.

A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
*Pride will make a person fall, but being honest and humble will keep someone respected and lifted up.

Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
*Whoever is friends with a thief secretly hates themselves. They hear bad words but don't tell anyone.

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
*Fearing people leads to trouble, but trusting in God keeps you safe.

Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD.
*Many people try to please the leader, but everyone's outcome is decided by God.
27
An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
*An unfair person is hated by fair people, and someone who does right is disliked by bad people.
