Chapter 21

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
*The king's decisions are controlled by God, like a river's flow; God directs them however He wants.
2
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
*Every person thinks their path is right, but God looks at the heart.

To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
*Doing what's right and fair is more important to God than offering sacrifices.

An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
*A haughty gaze and a proud mind, along with the farming done by bad people, is wrongdoing.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
*Thoughts of hardworking people lead to abundance, but impulsive people's thoughts often result in lack.

The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
*Gaining riches with lies is a futile pursuit for those seeking death.

The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
*The bad people's theft will harm them, as they won't follow fairness.

The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.
*People's paths can be confusing and unusual, but for those who are good, their actions are correct.

It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
*It's better to live in a small space up on a roof than with a quarrelsome woman in a big house.

The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
*The bad person's soul wants to do wrong: he doesn't like his neighbor.

When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
*When someone who mocks gets punished, the naive person learns a lesson. And when the smart person is taught, they gain more understanding.

The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
*The good person thinks about the bad person's house carefully, but God destroys the bad people because of their wrongdoing.

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
*Whoever ignores the cries of the poor will themselves be ignored when they cry for help.

A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.
*A hidden gift calms anger: and a reward deep in someone's chest calms strong rage.

It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
*It's happy for fair people to make good decisions, but bad things will happen to those who do wrong things.

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
*A person who strays from the path of wisdom will stay with those who have passed away.

He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
*If you love enjoying yourself, you'll be poor; if you love wine and oil, you won't be wealthy.

The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
*The bad people will pay for the good people, and those who break rules will pay for those who follow rules.

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
*It's better to live in the wilderness than be with a woman who argues and is always angry.

There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
*There's valuable stuff to want and smart people have useful things at home; but a dumb person wastes it all.

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
*Following righteousness and mercy leads to finding life, righteousness, and honor.

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
*A smart person climbs the powerful city and knocks down its overconfidence.

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
*Whoever controls their mouth and tongue will keep their soul free from problems.

Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
*The proud and arrogant person, who acts in angry disdain, is called a scorner.

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
*Laziness kills a person; because their hands won't work.

He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
*He desperately wants things all day: but the good person gives and doesn't hold back.

The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
*The bad person's offering is very bad; how much worse when he offers it with a bad intention?

A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
*A person who lies in court will fail, but someone who listens and tells the truth speaks often.

A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
*A bad person makes up his mind to be stubborn: but a good person guides his path.
30
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
*You can't be wise or smart or give good advice if you're going against the LORD.
31
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.
*The horse is ready for fighting, but true protection comes from God.
