Chapter 13

A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
*A smart child listens to their dad's advice, but a stubborn person ignores correction.
2
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
*A person gets goodness through the food they eat, but the souls of those who break rules experience violence.

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
*Keeping your mouth closed keeps you alive, but opening your mouth too much leads to destruction.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
*The lazy person wishes for things but gets nothing; but the hardworking person's soul will be filled with abundance.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
*A good person hates lying, but a bad person is disliked and brings shame upon themselves.

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
*Righteousness helps those who follow the right path, but wickedness brings down those who do wrong.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
*Someone becomes rich but has nothing, while another becomes poor but has great wealth.

The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
*A person's wealth saves their life, but the poor don't hear criticism.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
*The light shines bright for good people, but the light goes out for bad people.

Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
*Pride leads to arguments, but wise people choose peace.

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
*Gains from pride will decrease, but those who work hard will have more.

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
*Waiting too long for hope can make you feel unwell, but when your wish finally comes true, it brings new life like a healthy tree.

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
*Those who dislike the word will be destroyed, but those who fear the commandment will be rewarded.

The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
*The wise person's rules are a source of living well, helping avoid danger and death.

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
*Understanding brings favor, but the path of wrongdoers is difficult.

Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
*Smart people use their wisdom, but foolish people show their mistakes.

A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
*A bad messenger gets into trouble: but a loyal ambassador brings wellness.

Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
*Refusing guidance leads to poverty and embarrassment, but listening to criticism brings honor.

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
*Desiring something and getting it feels good inside; but foolish people don't like leaving bad things behind.

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
*Walking with smart people makes you smart, but hanging out with fools leads to ruin.

Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
*Evil chases sinners, but good will be returned to those who are righteous.

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
*A good person leaves money and possessions for their grandchildren, while a bad person's riches are given to those who do right.

Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
*Many poor people have lots of food from their hard work. But some things get ruined because they don't use good judgment.

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
*If you don't discipline your child, you actually dislike them. But if you love them, you teach them properly when they are young.
25
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
*The righteous person eats enough to feel satisfied, while the wicked person's stomach will not have enough.
